Paper was added to a stack already in the tray while the HP product was printing. The tray contains more than one type of paper. The paper is jammed inside the HP product where you cannot see it. An obstruction is blocking the paper path. Torn pieces of paper from a previous jam are stuck in the product. The tray is too full. If printing on an envelope, the edges of the envelope are bent. Reach inside the product through the cartridge access door, and then manually move the carriage. If the carriage is stuck on the right side of the product, move the carriage to the left side of the product. If the carriage is stuck on the left side of the product, move the carriage to the right side of the product. If the carriage is stuck in the middle of the product, move the carriage to the right side of the product. Make sure that the carriage can move freely across the width of the product. Firmly push the carriage to the left side of the product, and then to the right side. Close the cartridge access door. Step two Print a self-test report Printing a self-test report verifies if the hardware functions correctly. Follow these steps to print a self-test report. If these steps resolved the issue, and the test page prints, there is no need to continue troubleshooting. If the issue persists, continue with the next solution. If the test page does not print, continue with the next solution. Solution five Remove and then reinstall the cartridges Improper placement or installation of the cartridges can cause the product to indicate a carriage jam error. Follow these steps to remove and then reinstall the cartridges. Step one Remove the cartridges Press the Power button to turn on the product, if the power is not already on. Wait until the product is idle and silent before proceeding. Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the center of the product. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before continuing. Figure Open the cartridge access door Lightly press down on the cartridge to release it, and then pull the cartridge out to remove it from its slot. Figure Remove the cartridge caution Do not touch the copper-colored electrical contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections. Figure Do not touch the contacts or nozzles Repeat these steps to remove the other cartridge. Check for obstructions under and around the carriage. Clear any obstructions you find. You might need a flashlight to illuminate areas for proper viewing. Step two Reinstall the cartridges Follow these steps to reinstall the cartridges. Repeat the steps for each cartridge. Hold the cartridge by its sides with the nozzles toward the product, and then insert the cartridge into its slot. Make sure that the icon on the cartridge matches the icon on the slot. The tri-color cartridge goes in the slot on the left. The black cartridge goes in the slot on the right. Solution six Plug the All-in-One directly into an electrical outlet Plug the product directly into an electrical outlet to make sure that the power source functions correctly. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product. Unplug the power cord from any power strips or surge suppressors. Plug the power cord directly into an electrical outlet. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product. Press the Power button to turn on the product. Try the task again. If the issue persists, try a different electrical outlet. If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting. If the issue persists, continue to the next solution. Solution seven Perform a power reset Follow these steps to reset the product. Step one Reset the All-in-One With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Wait at least 15 seconds. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet. Reconnect the power cord to the printer. Turn the printer on. Solutions Solution one Make sure that the All-in-One is plugged in Follow these steps to make sure that the power cord is connected to the rear of the product and plugged into an electrical outlet. Check the rear of the product to make sure that the cord from the power supply is inserted securely into the power connection. Check the power supply to make sure that the power cord is plugged in securely. Check the electrical outlet to make sure that the power cord is plugged in securely. If the product turns on, there is no need to continue troubleshooting. If the product does not turn on, continue to the next solution. Solution two Make sure that the electrical outlet works Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Plug another appliance into the electrical outlet to make sure that the outlet works. If the electrical outlet does not work, plug the product into another outlet that does work. If the electrical outlet works, but the product still does not turn on, continue to the next solution. Solution three Make sure that the power supply is compatible with the HP All-in-One The term power supply refers to both the power module and the power cord. note To make sure that your product and power supply are compatible, HP suggests you use the original power supply shipped with your product. The photographs in the examples above might not match your product. Make sure that the voltage and amperage specifications printed on the power supply match the voltage and amperage specifications printed on the HP product. If the voltage and amperage specifications of the product and the power supply are compatible, make sure that the connector on the power cord is the same shape and size as the connector on the HP product. warning Do not force an incompatible power cord its plug has a different shape or size than the HP product's electrical connection into an HP product. If the power cord is not compatible with the product, replace the power cord with a compatible cord. If the power cord is compatible with the product, but the product still does not turn on, continue to the next solution. Solution four Reset the power module, and then test the power The power module has a safety feature that protects the product during a power surge. If you experienced a recent power surge, you might need to reset the power module. Follow these steps to reset the power module. Step one Reset the power module Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Unplug the power cord from the power module. Wait 15 seconds. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product. Plug the power cord back into the power module. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. Do not use a power strip or surge protector until after the issue is resolved. If the power module does not have an LED light, continue to the next step. If the power module has an LED light, check to see if the LED lights up. If the LED lights up, continue to the next step. Step two Test the power on the All-in-One Follow these steps to test the power on the product. Press, and then quickly release the Power button to start a Power On/Off cycle. Do not hold the button down. If you press and hold the Power button too long, the product might turn on and then turn off without restarting. If this happens, press and quickly release the Power button again. Check the product to make sure that it has turned on. If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting. If the issue persists, continue to the next solution. Solution five Test the power with a compatible power cord from a different product If you have another available power cord that is compatible with your product, use the alternate cord and repeat the steps in the solution to reset the power module and then test the power. If the product turns on with the alternate power cord, the original power cord caused the issue. Contact HP to replace the power cord.
